Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 tripod....Good enough for a Skywatcher Mini SAM setup

Afternoon all,

Not been on here in a while, but need some thoughts around a decent enough tripod for a Mini SAM. I decided to take the plunge and have one of these for travelling about with. So the requirements are that I need to travel with it, it has to support the SAM and the mini bundle, plus camera and small lens...I dont want to spend a fortune on it (just in case), but this one seems to fit the bill. larger than a diddy travel tripod, yet not as large as the 055 series. can carry 7KG....so should be well within the limits. Just wondering if anyone has any other thoughts..... I had a Horizon one and the quality left a little to be desired so that one was thrown.

Thanks!

I have used a Manfrotto 190ProB (an older version of the MT190XPro4) with my StarAdventurer and it works fine. I also have an 055 series set of legs, which is even better! So, I would think that the MT190XPro4 will be perfectly adequate for your purposes, but the sturdier a tripod you can manage the better. Will you be walking great distances with it or is it a bung in the car and set up near to the vehicle kind of travel kit?!

Thanks Gav. Well its to take on holiday with me (Barbados this year, but usually in the US somewhere). The Pro4 is slightly shorter in its closed length than the 055pro3 (by 11cms)...and slightly lighter by 400grams. it loses 2Kilos on its capacity. The are effectively the same price however...

The Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 seems a lot cheaper than the 055, but does that make it inferior if it gets the job done?
All down to the specs really, and to what you desire. Their both good tripods, mine only carries my 8x40's and/or my 15x70's, how overkill is that?

The original planned use for the tripod was for my Nikon D5000, I also bought a '3 legged thing' at the same time, the brand name for another trip, which if it ever gets used, to support a flash head!
