Archimedes, Eratosthenes and the Apennine Mountains

PS3 Eye webcam again, 8.5" f/7.6 newt, 2x barlow, 75fps @ 640x480, 12k frames, aligned and cropped in PIPP, stacked around 1500 in AS!2 with 1.5x drizzle, fat finger wavelets in R6, tweak in Gimp - probably a little overprocessed as usual. There are some processing artefacts (compression? alignment?) and a little over-exposure on some peaks.

Aim of this exercise was to try out my new dob az bearings and alt slo-mo - rather nice to use.

It caught my eye as soon as I'd focused - I didn't take video of any other regions I was so drawn to here.

Moon was close to the meridian and I had a broom handle screwed to the dob base. I could apply thumb pressure to the end of the handle and track fairly well, save for the odd alt tweak and the fact there are dirty great globs of dust on the sensor so drifting over the fov was actually an advantage.

In the cold light of day (and on a proper monitor) these new shots don't look so good after all.

Call it a learning curve, I'm at the bottom.
