pc monitor recommendations to help with processing

Recommended Posts

i`m in the market to upgrade my pc monitor, currently using an older cheap 17" low definition vga monitor which does not seem to help me when processing the colours and definition of my hard won images, so i`m looking for a full hd 1920 x 1080 monitor with either hdmi or d dvi connections but has good blacks and displays good colours, a screen size of around 20" and a budget of £120 ish, seems loads on the market but i really don`t know what i should be looking for so was looking for some recommendations.

many thanks.

1920x1080 is _low_ resolution for a monitor designed for image processing purposes... to help with accurate processing you ideally want something with 10bit color accuracy, as closely matched to the resolution of your imagers, but you’re nowhere near that price range. The ASUS PA238Q is considered the baseline ‘entry level’ for a monitor suited for image processing and is precalibrated at the factory for it, but again, you’d need to find another £100.

Otherwise, at 1920x1080 with a budget of £120ish, a monitor is a monitor is a monitor (pretty much, if you ignore media hype, buzzwords, and gaming). You’re not going to get anything particular better than anything else given the same diagonal size, contrast ratio & price, so then it comes down to styling. If you’re a gamer on the side, then high refresh rates will be of importance to you, along with possibly matching to your GPU for features such as FreeSync. If you’re not, then they’re not.

The AOC i2369Vm is a pretty good general target all things considered and has been praised in several reviews for it’s color reproduction. Can be had for around £130ish...

Monitors are like scopes... the more specialised you want, the more it costs. £500 in the bank would be a good start for getting first step on the ladder. Avoid HDMI if you can connect via other methods. DualLink DVI is a much more solid interface able to gain higher refresh and less noise on the line.
