BRESSER MESSIER REFRACTOR

Recommended Posts

Hi, a friend of mine is the proud owner of a Bresser Messier 152mm F5  Richfield Refractor OTA and has asked me if the Skywatcher EQ5 Synscan mount would be sturdy enough to support it.  Having had no experience with either, I know that somebody on this forum will have the answer ???...........................Dave

Very boarder line.

ES Say the scope weighs in at 10.6Kg, Skywatcher say the Max load is 9.1Kg.

So by rights the scope is over the max for the mount. Which I find a little odd as I have the 102S version. Trying to work out if the ES weight is the scope or the shipping weight, but at present it reads as if the scope weight.

Trouble about weight is that it may not include diagonal, eyepiece and finder and although small maybe say 0.5Kg that would bring the scope total to 11Kg which is then 2Kg over the mount max.

i have own one of these lovely fracs, the mount will carry it but not well, i had my one on a eq6 and that only just did the job , these scope are huge and catch alot of wind. id say the least you need is a HEQ5 for vis or a skytee. goodluck, clear skys ,charl.

Just to add complication I have just read a post in the Mounts section saying that SW have downgraded to load capacity of their mounts. Although the EQ5 rating seems not to have been reduced according to the post.

However if they have altered or do alter the offical capacity it makes it a bit ambiguous concerning recommendations. A month ago it may have been able to take the scope sort of thing.

Thanks Guys, Useful comments.I thought he might have got away with it being a short rich field version but 6 inch is a heavy object glass. I would have thought the EQ6 would do. I will ask him if he would like to put it on my EQ6 and see how it is. Will post results if he agrees.................Dave
