PHD2 Guiding - First Time

Hi

 

Last night was my first session using PHD 2 and a new Guide Camera for my setup as follows:

SCOPE
Skywatcher Explorer 250
Skywatcher EQ6 Pro SynScan

Guiding

Qhy5 II and PHD2

I am using the PHD2 default settings

Feedback on the graph would be appreciated

Hi John,

There is nothing wrong with that graph nice and even. A very good guide graph for the EQ6. There will be nights where the seeing is not good and the graph will seesaw. The PHD2 guiding assistant will help and recommend settings that will give you a decent guide. Unfortunately with guiding it's not a set & forget function.

May I suggest that 0.5s interval is too short? You are 'chasing the seeing', sending pulses when your guide star may not have actually moved. Try increasing the interval to say, 2s or 3s.

Post the guide log rather than a screen shot as it gives more useful information. Your vertical scale appears to be in pixels so it may or may not be a good graph depending on your pixel scale. What version of PHD2 are you using?

I echo what Jokehoba says about the interval. Using, say 3-4 sec is usually adequate, and you are less likely to lose the star if there is a passing cloud.
