Guiding Telescope advice

I want to attach my SW 80 to my Celestron 8i to use it for guiding,

The 8i is on an CG5 Equitorial mount

Can anyone recommend a good method which won't cost me a leg & an arm.

What is the coined weight of your 8 inch and your SW 80 ?

It may be too heavy for the the CG5

On a CG5, I think you'll need a side by side bar rather than an Up and Over.

This is more expensive, but will put signifcantly less weight through the mount.

I have a very similar set-up (C6-S, a WO 72 Megrez and a CG5-GT). I bought one of Ambermile's side by side mounting plates (very reasonable). However, although I think it would be fine for visual, I was concerned about the weight strain for imaging, as well as the PE of the CG5. Hence, my CG5 is up for sale and either an HEQ5 Pro or EQ6 Pro is on my shopping list. I'm not sure if I'm being over cautious and I look forward to hearing other opinions.

Weight - 8i = 12lb --- 80 ED = 2 lb + Canon 350D = 0.5 lb

You will note that the SW 80 Acro is very light compared with 80 Apos

Robin, If you find you need the side by side, Arthur still has some I think- having a clearance sale sort of thing. Only 65.00 delivered !

That overall weight may be okay, apparently the weight limit for the mount is 9kgs or 20 lbs for visual and 7kgs ish or 15 lbs for imaging

Robin, you could, of course, attach the ST80 to the rings of the imaging 'scope but as the mount is a relatively light one, my temptation would be to use a side by side mount as already recommended - Ambermile's clearance item is very good value at its current price.
