Great Rift in Cygnus

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to get a half-decent picture of the Milky way since I started, the Great Rift in Cygnus is the obvious target, but it always come out weird and hard to process.

This is my best effort so far, but I think you can see I'm struggling a bit:

what are the details of the capture? sub length,iso,camera/lens, mount? it'll make it easier to offer advice. to me it looks over stretched which may be why it's a bit noisey. let us know :D

A puny 12 subs, 450, 28mm sirius macro-wide lens with 0.45 wide angle adaptor, f7-ish (between f8 and f5.6), ISO 1600 (which is probably part of the noise problem), 60 sec subs.

Yes I agree it is probably over stretched but I am struggling to understand what is 'right' for this bit of sky. Other people seem to get a nice orangey glow, I have (to be polite) a sort of clay colour. If I can figure out where I'm going wrong I will take a decent run of subs (30 mins should be enough for the milky way?) plus I think I can go to ISO800 and open it up a stop without the stars in the corners going funny.

I will try a less stretchy version!
