ISS and friends this morning

Recommended Posts

As there was two photo opportunities for the ISS this morning I decided to set the alarm and have a go.

The first at 5:15 was a faint pass between the Moon and Venus. Struggled to find a spot where the moon was not behind the trees but found one just in time. The ISS was very faint but managed a couple of widefield shots with Moon, Venus, Mars and Jupiter taking centre stage.

In this first shot the ISS is lower right. The line under the moon is a thin line of cloud.

In this second the ISS is just approaching the top of the moon.

The third is just a shot of the Moon and Planets. From the Bottom - Moon - Venus - Mars - Jupiter

The second ISS pass at 6:50 was directly overhead and at its brightest. The plan was to capture with telescope as previous, but whether through poor focussing or humidity in the air, or combination of both the results were very disappointing and nothing worthy of processing.

Couldn't resist a quick single shot of Orion

Fourth, single shot of Orion

and a quick stack of Orion to Pleiades.

Not the most successful astro-photo session but it made a change from staying up half the night.

If anyone would like to know where the ISS is at any given time and location, here's two download-sites for Orbitron, and Previsat:

http://www.stoff.pl/

http://sourceforge.net/projects/previsat/

Both are freeware and quite safe. With a satellite-tracker like these, you'll know when to get out your camera or whatever to catch the show.

Enjoy -

Dave

Very nice set of photos. Thanks for posting. The way the clouds have been rolling in here they are my only way to see this conjunction.

Thanks, just returned from two weeks in grey ole England, wonderful to see blue sky again.
