Peering over the edge

Hi All

I thought i would take advantage of the moons libration this month.

Here is a shot of a not so imaged area of Mare Humboldtianum.

Shot in terrible seeing best 800 frames of 5000 each image at 80% quality.

I know its not well know but enjoy.

Good go at that one Ed ,yes i could see that conditions were not great for close in last night , i was just right with my set up , but any closer in would have been tricky.

5000 frames Ed just goes to show it was bubbling like a cauldron last night plus some high cloud did not help well my end anyway.

I like these sort of images though. Turns astronomy, usually

limited to a "2D plan view", into a 3D world (O.K., Moon)!

Nice shot. 5000? was it done by AVis or one shot 5000 times.

Hi Robin

5000 frames captured then split in half by virtual dub,

and loaded into Registax 4 as two avis. repeated for the crater.

Merged in photoshop.

Nice work Ed and especially a good effort given the conditions! It's a great image to look into the distance at the edge of the moon and contemplate that those parts are not visible very often!

(Just a note.. the mare is named for Alexander von Humboldt.. Crater Humboldt on the SE limb is named after his brother Wilhelm. Coupled together, I bet the two images would make an interesting submission for LPOD, hint-hint, nudge-nudge, wink-wink. )
