Some current fine triples and tight doubles.

Recommended Posts

The lovely field of η Lyrae shows at least four other notable doubles including,SHJ 289,HLM19 and SEI584. A very enjoyable scene. Catch the details on star splitters, https://bestdoubles.wordpress.com/2015/08/30/a-closer-look-at-eta-η-lyrae-including-shj-289-hlm-19-and-sei-584/

Σ285 in Triangulum opened up nicely at 1.8". I was lucky to catch an early Lynx in the north , showing the triples of 12 and 19 Lynchi .

Up to Cassiopeia and the multiple Σ 3037, HV82/Σ59. A tight Σ 3062 and Σ306 followed.

Ψ Cassiopeiae is a lovely colourful triple, worth finding.

Perseus showed β787. Α lovely night , setting the brilliant Almach and Albireo as colourful sharp marbles, some great contrasts here.

Surprise of the night was catching the challenging β 787 and the close by 1.1" split of β533 in the 102. Testament to brilliant seeing and fine optics.post-6974-0-73792400-1441865870_thumb.jppost-6974-0-09300100-1441865891_thumb.jp

Clear skies, more on the way !

One question. How do you find all these stars? I mean, Ψ cassiopae or 17 Lynchi or  β787 or whatever? Which charts do you use?

Again nice report great sketches. Nice starsplitters you have there Nick! C6r must be awesome along with the vixen...

Some very enticing targets here Nick - thanks again

I'd like to give them a go with my Vixen 102 !

I find that Cartes du Ceil finds most of them. That gives a decent idea of where they are in a constellation (and whether they likely to be visible !). I then use the S&T Pocket Star Atlas to actually find them or even Uranometria on occasions.
