ND 96 works for m, on the rare moment i use a filter, high mag works like a good filter, dimming the view

I would think you'd do better with a variable polarizing filter for the moon... you'll want more dimming when it's full versus a sliver after all....

I just acquired (but have yet to use in the field) a 2" Lumicon variable filter which goes for about $60 in the US, quality seems excellent though

I agree with Kurtz, if any I would go for the variable to suit different phases

I use a 2" ND50 Lumicon for different things and it works very well, optical quality matters espc on high resolution objects like the moon. I don't personally use any filter on the moon but others do and some use even higher reduction.
