June 17, 2015: AR2371 through Solar Spectrum filter

Just had a quick look this morning using the APM 80mm + Solar Spectrum set-up (75mm clear aperture). Hazy clouds prevented me from imaging, so I contented myself with some quick views through the 25mm Vixen Ortho at 77x, and later inserted a 20mm Plossl for 96x magnification. Despite the narrow bandwidth (0.3 Å) and hazy cloud, the image was bright enough, and showed massive detail. The main sunspot in AR2371 on the eastern edge of the disk is trailing a complex mass of bright plage. Really fascinating to watch. The other big AR is also putting on quite a show. Hopefully I will get a chance to image these to ARs later today.

Ive been waiting for 2371 to come round into view more. It looks really big. Its raining here atm but should clear later.

I just had a Geomagnetic Disturbance Alert email from the British Geological Survey.  I think its kicking off up there.  I am going to get the scope out once these clouds shift.

Wow the seeing is mint, that region is ripping the surface open, its so bright inside there.  The magnetosphere is very handy right now

Just spotted the flare still going off. The flare wasn't visible earlier this evening. Amazing sight. This must be an M-class flares.

Sunspot AR2371 has erupted again, producing a strong M6.5 class solar flare.

I could not get over the speed at which this region was changing.  This is the most dynamic solar viewing for me to date & only been at it for 6 months.
