OBSERVING MEET - June 19 or 20th ?

Darker nights are disappearing fast, so hopefully, with the weather permitting, we will be able to get together for the last of our scheduled observing sessions this season at Blaenavon.  Mark your calendar for Friday the 19th, and Saturday the 20th as an alternate if the weather is not cooperative.

If you have not attended one of our informal Observing Meets before, the Blaenavon site is located next to the radio towers northeast of town at the paved " Fox Hunter " car park.  We try to get there before dusk to set up if possible, so any equipment issues can be resolved without the use of white lights.  If you are new to the hobby, you can get a first hand look at a variety of equipment and talk to observers with various interests, such as astro photography.  Join us if you can.

The site coordinates are ........  51*  47'  25.74" N  by  3*  4'  10.74"  W

Check this thread in the afternoon, on the day, to see if the meet is a " GO "  or a " NO-GO " pursuant to the weather.

Clear skies to us all.

UPDATE ..........

Observing Meet  June 19 or 20th  -  " CANCELED "  ( date change )

Astro darkness for the June 19 / 20 starts around 10:30 pm., and as we will still be within several days of the new moon, it makes more sense this late in the season to reschedule the Observing Meet for June 12th with the 13th as an alternate.

Edit: Sorry for any inconvenience, and I will post a new thread regarding this soon.

  • 2 weeks later...

No observing sessions have been considered for July or throughout the summer as astro darkness is at a minimum.

Edit:  Please note, that if there is interest, anyone can organize a short notice meet, and are encouraged to do so.
