Resistor question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I managed to blow up a small wireless AV Receiver box recently and want to try to repair it.

It appears that only one resistor has blown, any assistance identifying it gratefully received.

It looks like 10 ohms 20% tolerance but may have lost colour due to overheating.

The colours read from right to left as shown - Brown, Black, Black, Black.  First two are the value 10, next is the multiplier black = 0 ie. 10 to the power 0 which is 1.  So that's 10 ohms.  The final colour is the tolerance and black is 20% I think.

resistors tend not to blow, unless far too much current was passed through it, so I'd suspect some other components have also blown....

Have you tried putting a multimeter across it to measure its resistance and ensure its open circuit. And I agree it looks like a 10 ohm 2 watt..

Thanks all. Multimeter needs new battery so will check if it's open circuit soon. It had physically fallen off the board and there is scorching under where it was sat so I'm pretty sure it has failed.

Understood there may be other component damage but will check this later

Many thanks
