The dark line is a prominence - plasma thrown up off the Sun's 'surface' and held in place by the Sun's magnetic field. You're probably more familiar with them when they appear on the limb like giant arching flames. When they occur on the Sun's disk as here, they're called filaments.

Beautiful shot.

I note today (using the old eyeball) that there are more small 'spots' in the flare area and less eyebrow (as we call bits like the long dark section). The sun changes so quickly hour to hour. There is even a nice flare on the edge.
