Bagged Mercury at last! :-)

Just caught a glimpse of Mercury in 10x50s, about a degree under Venus - much paler by comparison.

I managed to bag Mercury at an eastern elongation,using Celestron Skymaster 15x70's,in 2012.I have yet to see it again!

well done for your 1st time viewing its always nice to see objects for the 1st time.

Earlier this evening I managed to grab them both from the back step using some 20x80s (handheld, so a bit shaky). First time I've ever seen Mercury, which had a strong orangey hue. I glimpsed it with the naked eye afterwards as well, although much easier in the bins. Cloud kept passing over (very quickly thanks to this crazy wind) and then I lost it behind the nearby houses. Nice to have ticked off that one. Would be interested to plot its course over a few nights now.
