m42 from yosemite. plus sculptor galaxy,

taken from edge 11hd. canon 5d mark ii. and celestron .7 FR on Orion

believe it or not this is just 4x40s subs and darks. at 3200 ISO.

I know its a bit grainy, I just didn't have much time for imaging that night. me and a friend were messing with a bunch of things and his FR.

we were around until about 2:30 when M42 finally came up. I was so impressed with what was showing up in just 40 second exposures.

sculptor galaxy ngc253 was taken a bit earlier, without the reducer. only 3x40s subs were useable and this was ISO 1600. man how I wish I could have those dark skies in my backyard.

Great images. I spotted NGC 253 2 years back with bins, and it was great under the pitch dark conditions I had. Last summer I saw it through a 20" Dob and it was amazing. Lovely object. Pity it is so low in the sky here

Great images for such short integration time. Dark skies will be a future treasure and a sight for only a few.

NGC 253 is also called the Silver COin Galaxy. It has a surprising surface brightness for an almost edge on (barred?) spiral, especially given all the dust that is visible
