£3 Red Light Torch

Hi folks. I'm still fairly new to astronomy and on a tight budget having 2 kids. This is maybe a well known trick.

I bought 6 LED torch from the pound shop.

Some red nail polish. Also from the same pound shop.

And a pack of 12 batteries for a pound from? You guessed it the same pound shop!

Got the torch home and a few coats of nail polish and voila!

I'm quite please with the results and will be sufficient for reading maps and books while out with my telescope.

Doing things on a budget I've had to learn to improvise though this isn't an original idea and I did get the idea from the internet. Hopefully it can help someone else that maybe hasn't came across it yet.

I was impressed for £3 including batteries as when I looked online they were quite pricey. I'm currently saving for an EQ mount and a new camera so as Tesco would say every little helps lol

I have a spare torch at work that I had to replace cause it wouldn't light up anything I needed to see in dark holes. Might nab it and steal some of the wife's nail polish. Free torch!

Yea Les need must when cash is short and I'm scraping every penny! Fatrick looks like you could beat my cost and I thought I was doing well!

is the light red or pinkish?

Hi batt it took a few Coates to get it red as it started off pinkish so I just kept applying until it was red.
