Struve 485 in NGC 1502

Recommended Posts

At the end of Kembles Cascade is a small open cluster, NGC 1502

At the heart of the cluster lies the bright double star Struve 485.

It's not that hard to seperate them and the double is rather bland.

The two brightest components are both mag 7 B0II stars.

Separation is 18" and the position-angle is 305°.

Anyway here is  an image....nothing special.

Taken with SW 80ED Pro+reducer+Hutech IDAS LP....Canon 600D 30secs @ iso800

Thanks for your comments.

I want to do a longer exposure eventually.

Also want to split Struve 484, it's up to the right of 485, you can just see the two stars overlapping.

Will have to do EP projection on that one plus it will make a better image with both doubles split in same image.

Interesting. I've observed it many times, and noted the double star but had know idea it was a Struve double, or that there was another lurking in there too! Will have a more detailed look next time.

Cheers

Stu
