Recommended Posts

It as a few problems that could be ironed out and edited out but you have some nice detail,,what subs time lenght ect?

Hi,

Thanks, it was a stack of 30X 150s . It was a little noisy but I didn't push the moise reduction too much.

Hi Gav,

Yes I did shoot darks, but I have a feeling that they made the image worse since the darks were shot at a much higher sensor temperature than the image was taken at, that is one of the disadvantages of a DSLR compared to a cooled CCD.The image is also savagely stretched for the little data that was collected, subs of 150s with a DSLR do not give the best signal.

Many thanks,

A.G

Hi Pat,

I dont use the DSLR anymore unless I need to do ultra wide field as in M31, most of my stock of darks are nearly 6 months old now and were done last MApril when the temp was still quite low,one was done on one of those muggy humid nights  about two weeks ago. I am now convinced that I have to live withnoise even in CCD captures as my sky quality is really very poor.

that is a pretty good image, some nice deatail and star colour. what ISO setting did you use, perhaps you could reduce the setting next time to help?

Hi,

I used my unmodded 1100d @ iso 1600, perhaps  next time I just stick to 400 and give it a bit more time . I think the DSLR is done a decent job with such short exposures.

Regards,

A.G
