Thanks everyone! here's a photo I found of the homemade mount - as you can see I'm no master craftsman - or photographer for that matter!

That looks quite a nifty little mount. I see it doubles as a prop for your wifes ironing board when not in use. :embarassed:

Thanks Ron, The mount that originally came with the telescope was quite flimsy and wobbles all over the place and took ages to settle down after adjusting anything so I thought a heavier version might suffice. The result didn't look pretty and my wife demanded I hide it when we had visitors but it certainly worked well - the balance wasn't very good though. For my new telescope I am going to get a HEQ5 rather than try and build my own.
