Motorised tracking

Recommended Posts

Hi we own a Skywatcher 200P EQ5. can anyone recommend a good motorised drive kit for either tracking or co-ordinates etc. My husband saw a programme where someone had the same telescope with a motor on it and got all excited.

There are three options:

1, A single motor drive that allows the mount to track in right ascension only http://www.firstligh...ve-for-eq5.html @£75

2. A dual axis drive that allows you to control the mount in RA and DEC axis but with not computer control http://www.firstligh...ve-for-eq5.html @ £92

or

3. A full Synscan goto upgrade kit that gives you full control of the mount and can be connected to a laptop and controlled through a planetarium program http://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-mounts/page/2/ @£300

I'm really not sure I would do it that way. I'd be more inclined to sell the EQ5 (I'd have thought £180 to £200 wasn't an unreasonable amount to expect) and then buy the EQ5 Pro Synscan with everything already fitted for a smidge over £500. It might cost £30 more, say, to do it that way, but you'd not have to fit it and you'd have a brand new mount.

You are probably right but I never seem to sell anything at the price I want it's always much less
