A macro tube is designed to placed between a camera and a normal dslr lens allowing the len to focus much closer than it normally would. If you place a macro tube between the camera and the telescope you would then need to wind in the focuser by the length of the tube to get the camera back in to focus. The macro tube would act as a normal extension tube in this case.

i expect the extension tubes are the opposite of what you're after aren't they?

You need the 1.4x or 2x converters to get a bigger image on the camera since you're using the scope as a large lens. But then they're just as expensive as focal reducers!
