post processing software

Hi all just wanted to ask in your expert opinions is Photoshop CS6 is it any good for post production as my friend has it for the mac and as I've just got into AP i wondered if theres any better software out there or is this a good place to start.

Its the one most folk use. Expensive but about the best.
