Quick EQ6 Handset question.

Is anyone able to confirm whether or not an EQ6 pro from circa late 2008 with this handset will either have or be capable of having the v3 firmware? if not (or if anyone is able to answer for me anyway) what are the benefits and drawbacks of having or not having v3 firmware?

Would appreciate any input.

I think that at some time there was a change in the handsets. To use the latest firmware is not therefore possible on older handsets.

Catch is I am not sure when this occurred. Just reasonably sure that it did.

Someone like Astro Baby may have an idea, and I suspect several others.

Would actually be good to know when this occurred.

That looks the same as the handset that came with my NEQ6 in 2011, so if they changed, perhaps it was before 2008?

Check which version firmware is on the HS now, then check on Skywatcher site to see if it's upgradable.

When you power up you should be able to confirm the version...V2 is locked and not upgradable

This is a handset on a mount I'm looking at buying.

If it is locked to the v2 firmware, is this a significant problem? Does the old firmware model handset have issues of any kind?

Not significant...it will still do it's job very well....
