Or at least that's what it said in the local free ad paper. When I phoned the guy up he says it used to be his fathers about 10 - 20 years ago because he was "into UFOs". His description then said he knows nothing about scopes but it weighs a lot and is in a wooden box.

So ... worth a punt or a piece of ????

All Russian scopes seem to come in wooden boxes and weigh a lot so it is probably genuine. I don't know what model a UFO enthusist would use though.

difficult to say without knowing what it is or condition...

worth a drive to have a look? you did say it was in a local paper

Good chance it could be a Tal. Most of the older ones came in weapons grade crates.

A little bit more info would be useful. Either pop round for a look or ask if there's any little metal plates with numbers etc on the box. Or, ask him to open the box and look at the back end of the scope(I'm assuming it's a newt), there may/should be an inscription of some kind.

I'm scratching my head to think of a Russian scope that's bad.

Worth a look, i picked one up at a local foot sale for £15 with EPs, no wooded box, my ones a 1994 model

being new to the hobby i wasnt sure what i was getting, but was too cheap to not buy

Go and have a look, it has got to be worth it, all Russian scope are bombproof and generally good quality. See what you can find out, labels etc and report back.
