anyone care to try to solve this image, OR, should I expect AT to fail because of the foreground?

The full frame image, converted from the Raw file to JPG is here http://www.photosbyk...IMG_0515_AT.jpg

Camera was a 5D MkII with Canon 24mm lens, horizontal field is 73.7 degrees. If it does solve I'd appreciate the settings as it fails after 480 seconds on my setup

I attache the log of my second attemtp to solve my Blue Snowball image, so far it has taken around 15 minutes, with no sign of solving it! The first time I tried solve-field -u app -L1/ -H2/ apod15.jpg in the Cygwin window, to set the minimum and maximum scales, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Success! Obviously it is essential to get the sigma value correct, which must be something to do with the amount of noise in the image.

Hopefully I will soon try it out under the stars!

I use --sigma 100 with the notebook and 5 sec exposures as it's a bit limited with cpu time. With the canon dslr I reckon you can get away with only searching index 208 for getting the alignments & scope on target sorted.

I found that --sigma30 seems to work best for me, at least for JPEG images. I tried Astrotortilla out under the stars, it didn't solve a 5 second exposure of M31 at --sigma100, but I changed it to --sigma30 inside and it solved fine. I changed the search radius to 45, I assume this will help?

I got the Astrotortilla window to work at last by changing the Cygwin Shell path to the correct one!

In cygwin terminal, do

ls /usr/local/astrometry/bin/solve-field.exe

If you see "/usr/local/astrometry/bin/solve-field.exe" then that's where the program has been installed and you need to do this

$ echo "PATH=/usr/local/astrometry/bin:\$PATH" >> ~/.bashrc

Then try AT again and you won't get the "command not found" error (hopefully)

Both AstroTortilla and Cygwin are install on the route of my C drive
