beatledave
When I hook my webcam to my Bresser Skylux 700x70 the moon travels quite quickly across the screen. Anyone else have the same problem. You can tell I'm new to this!
nightfisher
you need some kind of tracking, and have the mount fairly well polar aligned
beatledave
Does it really move that quickly?! Wow. Thanks, I know what I'm asking for Christmas!
JamesF
Actually, it's mostly down to the Earth that's rotating that quickly.James
beatledave
I know, I must stop referring to the moon and stars as moving!
nightfisher
Is your bresser on an EQ mount or alt az?, if its EQ then it should have flexi controls for tracking, with a little patience you can track lunar with this set up for some short webcam captures
paul schofield
It does seem to shift at a pace. Yesterday I was standing outside my work having a look at the moon in day light. As an experiment I stood still and lined up the moon's west side with a flood light to see how long it took to get its whole circle to the other side, given parallax it took roughly 4 minutes. Dipper
Does it really move that quickly?! Wow. Thanks, I know what I'm asking for Christmas! It does! Note that a full Moon disk is about half a degree in width. An average camera field of view is not much more than a degree or so. The night sky moves one degree in four minutes. beatledave
Nightfisher, it's an eq so I'll try flexing with the moon! Paul and dipper, the wonders of the solar system never cease to amaze me :-)
Ganymede12
My Dad was amazed at how fast the moon "moves". I had my camcorder filming through my telescope and it didn't take long for the moon to be gone from the FoV!
