gazebo style observatory

Obsy too intrusive on the garden scene? Here's some sketches from awhile back for converting a small hexagonal or octagonal garden gazebo into a rotating observtory via a circular ground track. It has a hinged or lift-aside roof shutter and split [stable] door for aiming lower down. A steel bar across the door head ensures structural integrity with minimum obstruction to the scope. Scope could be swapped out for a central table. Might appeal to the 'CEO'

A nice idea. Something I considered before going for my roll off shed.

I can't remember now why I gave up on the octagonal summerhouse idea.

I do remember part of the 'specification' in early discussions with the CEO.

....I don't want something that looks like a bottle recycling bin in the garden.

That was of course a reference to fibreglass domes.

Very nice indeed! I've never seen this clever idea before. What I would do differently is to make only the roof rotatable, not the entire gazebo. :)

That option is included at my http://home.freeuk.com/m.gavin/gazebo-ob.htm but the view is restricted to ~20*-30* above the horizon - assuming a regular 6' 6" door height - unless the scope is raised higher eg above the door transom
