8" newt on an EQ5+ DSLR

Hi

I am looking at this as a possible set up. Is this feasible and realistic? If an 8" is asking a bit too much of the mount, then would I be able to do a 6" reflector with a short tube refractor piggy backed?

I've done that. TBH I wouldn't say the mount buckled under the weight, but I think for imaging vibrations might become apparent.

The 8" is a breeze on the EQ5 for visual.

To be honest I would press on with your plans for a HEQ5 - always a good idea to get the best mount you can afford so that it can take a bigger OTA or more imaging stuff.

Andrew is right, if you have the funds for the HEQ5, go for that.

I used a 8" on a EQ5 (this scope came with an EQ3 as standard back then). But the HEQ5 was much much better and worth the extra few quid.

Agree with the comments get the best mount you can afford The mount will stay but the ota tends to be changed more often
