Hi and welcome to SGL! I visit Houston on business fairly regularly - great city - though I haven't had chance to visit any of the Astro clubs yet. Maybe next time I'm out I'll head along, so do let us know if you find a good group out there. All the best with the new hobby!

Houston Astrological Society is a great group I met them at a local park during the venus transition, and had a great time. They were extremely helpful and in general very nice people. The club has a couple of dark sites where members can go and do some deep space exploration, and they also have a observatory available to their paying members. Aside them the Houston Community College has a great astronomy club as well, and they are based out of my campus. I see myself carrying my ETX to class quite a bit lol.
