  1. I've recently started out with a 2nd-hand 8SE and in the 4 weeks that I've had it, I've bought some filters, an eyepiece and used it 6 times already. My main requirement was to buy a scope that was easily portable that I could setup inside and then move into the garden. The scope need to be easy pack into my car and go out into the darker skies in the fens. Never used a DOB, but I'm sure it's something to try out when I get a chance

  3. Hi, I'm based in Peterborough. I've just started out and I am looking for any recommendations for viewing sites, I don't mind driving a little to get there. It would be nice to meet up with some members. I can't make Kelling this year, but looking to book for 2013.
  4. I remember seeing the beige/golden white hues of the Milky Way. When I was a in my teens as I was an avid star gazer from an early age. Now the colours picked up by my cones only show more a grey/white clouds (40 yrs old now) as if I am watching as a teen with my peripheral vision rods. A little splash of memory and creative brain activity can fill in the colours

  7. Yesterday my new birthday present arrives and I get excited as this is my first telescope, a Celestron 8SE SCT. After work I set it up in the lounge, hey presto 5 minutes later it's together, easy. I check the goto computer is working and familiarise myself through the menu system configuring location and other details in preparation to align the scope later that evening. Weatherman predicts cloudy weather until after 22:00 when the sky should clear up, perfect to test my scope. Dark sky arrives and I pop my head out after 22:00 and the clouds are just starting to break up, thumbs up to the
  8. I've recently purchased an 8" SCT and was wondering what eyepieces I should start out with? I've got a standard 25mm Celestron Plossl eyepiece and a 2x Barlow. Does anyone have any recommendations for what other I may find useful and what I would be using them for.
  9. I use a compressor for airbrush for painting, I have good filters to ensure clean air and moisture removal. So it may be worth a go.
