Transit at sunrise: green rim, sunspots, mirage: all at once!

Recommended Posts

Because bad weather was predicted throughout the whole of the Netherlands, I planned a 500km roadtrip to the north of Germany (near Lübeck) to witness the Venus transit from the coast of the Baltic Sea. It turned out to be one the greatest moments in my astronomy-life. Weather was great and I could observe from the very moment of sunrise till 4th contact.

The best views were around sunrise because of the atmosferic effects and I was extremely lucky to catch a green rim, the black spot of Venus, some sunspots, an strangely shaped Sun and a mirage reflection all in one picture. I litterally jumped around after I made this photograph! Even Venus appears to have a green rim.
