Castlehill Heritage Trail by Stewart Watt, on Flickr

The tower in the center was a windmill which used to pump water to the flagstone quarries in the area back in 18 oatcake or whenever, ;)Actually in the early 1900's there were over 500 people employed in the quarries here.Flagstones from here had been exported since 1825 all over the world form South America to Australia.

However with the advent of concrete slabs the trade in Caithness Flagstones dramatically declined and the quarries shut in 1920's

The house to the right used to be the Castlehill Harbour pilots residence, again back in 18 oatcake.
