Dre
Hello peeps! What good eyepieces would go well with my skymax 150? Cheers :-).
nightfisher
baader genuine orthoscopics for planetary work, or bst explorers for a bit more general work, or if your budget is a bit small go for GSO/revelation plossl`s
Dre
Thanks for the reply.. What about televue, Are they any good?Cheers! :-)
nightfisher
televue are considered superb, but with the long focal length of your mak, you might struggle to justify the cost as your scope is very "easy" on eyepiece`sIn my 180 mak i prefer a BGO 18mm and i just barlow it when i want more powerIf you were to be a little more specific as to what you prefer to view, and your budget it would help
tony4563
With the Mak I tend to use eyepieces with a wide AFOV if possible.Makes it that little bit easier on the eye, for me.Less of the " looking down a straw " feeling.
Ags
An often overlooked EP is the Speer WALER - I have a 9mm for my mak and am very pleased with it.
Dre
Well just an all rounder really if that makes sense lol.
Ags
The hyperions are good all rounders - a wide field of view and sharp views with low internal reflections - so they can show DSOs and planets well. My Speer WALER in contrast loses slightly on planets but shows a wider field. You can also look at EPs like TS Planetary HRs - they are half the price of a hyperion and very nice, especially in slow scope like yours. I am very happy with the 6 and 9mm of these.
E621Keith
Baader Hyperion Zoom. It gives you between 75x-225x on your scope.A good do it all eyepiece.
Macavity
I think my favourite eyepiece, with the MAK150, is the Baader 31mm "Aspheric" - Albeit with a TS/T2 35mm "two inch" diagonal. Idem the 17mm, 13mm Hyperionss. Beyond that, the small exit pupil, takes a bit of "finding" with the 8mm Hyperion? For higher powers, maybe a more "planetary" eyepiece... with a smaller eye lens? tony4563
Another recommendation for the Planetary eyepieces Great value for around £40 or less on that auction site
Dre
Cheers for the help guys! I think I'm going to go for the Huperions 13mm see how things go with that :-)!
tony4563
if they are anything like the Vixen LVW's I have (same style of eyepiece) then you will be well happy with your purchase. Nice comfortable eyepiece to use
Dre
Can you see good detail with Hyperion eyepieces?
John
Can you see good detail with Hyperion eyepieces?Yes. Here is a link to a review I did of the Hyperions v's the Vixen LVW's a while back:Vixen - LVW Comparison ReviewIn the Skymax 150, which is a slow scope, the performance of the two types will be very similar indeed.Bear in mind that the Vixen LVW's cost twice as much as the Hyperions.
