Baader Genuine Orthoscopic Eyepieces

Recommended Posts

Our email in-box is filling up with enquiries for Baader Genuine Orthoscopic eyepieces. Apparently there is a rumour saying the factory that makes them was washed away by the Japanese tsunami. We don't know how true that is but supply is drying up and a replacement model sourced from China is in the pipeline.

Currently we have all focal lengths in stock, except for the 12.5mm

We are buying as many of the Japanese-made model as we can. If you are in the market for one then we suggest you do the same ;)

Hope that helps,

Steve

Currently all the Baader Genuine Orthoscopic eyepieces are available, except for the 12.5 mm.

For the 12.5mm Baader simply say "delivery date unknown". We are not expecting another delivery of 12.5mm but we haven't given up trying.

Regarding the other focal lengths, stock here at FLO and at Baader's UK importer are running low so if you need one to complete your collection we recommend ordering soon.

Hope that helps,

Steve

It seems a very odd position to be in for Baader and their importers. One would hope that they have completely run out of stock and intend to produce more, but don't know when manufacture will be restarted. The cynic in me suggests that someone somewhere could be trying to string people along until they're ready with the new range. I'd hope that isn't the case, but they'd hardly be the first if they did.

It pays to be a little cynical when it comes to retail :hello2:

Nobody has 'officially' said the BGO eyepieces have been discontinued but Baader have a family of Chinese-made orthoscopics waiting in the wings so we think it likely. When the new orthoscopics arrive we will make a set available for review.

The 9mm Baader Genuine Orthoscopic is the latest focal length to become unavailable. If you are looking to buy one (we have sold out) and you find a retailer with it in stock, buy it now.

Officially, the BGO range are not 'discontinued' but they are gradually becoming unavailable.
