anyone with swed80 apo tell me what this is for?

it came with the 80ed apo, i know its some kind of adapter, it does fit in the focuser so a guess is for dslr attachment.

anyone help?

it's an adapter for 1.25"-inch eyepieces to fit in a 2" focuser, isn't it? And the covered bit could be hiding a T-thread for attaching camera gear.

Thats the adapter to take 1.25" eyepieces / accessories. It has a thread on it as well but I can't recall what size that is.

with the cover off there is threads to indicate that something does screw onto it.

The Skywatcher 1.25" - 2" adapters are very distinctive - and that picture definitely shows one.

It is a T2 adapter to which to screw in your DSLR adapter to allow the DSLR to fit directly to the focuser. The conical end gives a more solid connection with the thumbscrews.

A T2 camera adaptor to suit your camera body is all you need. A remote cable also helps ;-) something like the TC-80 controller.
