1000d or 1100d?

I would go for the 1100D as it has 14bit raw and the Digic IV processor...

I would agree with Psychobilly. I hadn't actually been aware of the 1100D until reading this thread but a quick look at the specs make it appear to be a much better buy than the 1000D now, it has many new upgrades taken from the more expensive Canon DSLR models (just as the 1000D had, but time moves on with new and better features).

The 1000D has been out of production for a while now and is no longer on most suppliers lists.

I'm happy with my 1100D. According to a review I can't find right now, it has much lower noise than the 1000D.
