drewzilla
Hi All,Right im going to buy a SW explorer 200 pds in the new year. Which will be my first scope. It comes with a 2" 28mm i believe.Just looking for advice on which additional ones to get.Im thinking a 10mm and a 20mm and a 2 x barlow? Advantages and disadvantages of my plan?Peoples thoughts are most welcome.CheersDrew
Mr Spock
Well, a 20mm + x2 Barlow = 10mm, so that's not a good balance.Have you thought about a 2" Barlow? If you added a 12mm and 8mm eyepieces that would give you x36, x72, x83, x125, x166, x250.
drewzilla
Yeah sorry i didnt really think about that. 10 and a 20 would be a waste. Cheers for pointing that out.Why a 2" barlow? Wouldnt that mean i need 2" ep's too? Are 2" ep's at the f length i want going to be expensive? cheers
DOBBY
depending on your budget & eyesight...not everyones are the sameif you are getting a 28mm with the 'scope...possibly something around 22mm & 7mm + a barlow...celestron do a x-cel lx range & from reading comments on here...a decent barlow....also the TAL gets good read-upsor a cheaper option may the BST range of eyepieces...or revellation
John
A 2" barlow will work with 1.25" eyepieces as well (most come with an adapter).
DOBBY
you may need to get a 35mm or 50mm focus extender too with that 'scope
drewzilla
Cheers everyone for their comments you may need to get a 35mm or 50mm focus extender too with that 'scopeHmm your going to have to explain this im afraid lol
DOBBY
First Light Optics - Two-inch Focus Extension tubesgives you a picture...it 's what you put the eyepiece in...the 200P DS has a habit of needing them...wait till you get the 'scope & collimate it...if you have probs getting it to focus...you'll need one

russ.will
or a cheaper option may the BST range of eyepieces...or revellationGood suggestion on the BSTs.I finally had a good run with my new BST 18mm over the weekend and found it to be superb in my 200p. Really nice and sharp across the entire field - Only the outer 10% or so showing some softening of stars, and none of the hideous, distractiing seagulls that my 26mm Revelation shows.Russell
