Transportable Dobs

Which is the better dob the Flexi or the Light Bridge? I might go for something a little bigger than my frac (er... much bigger)

For quick setup/takedown you can't beat the flextube... holds collimation between takedowns as well.

I was told by a shop selling the light-bridge...flex-tubes optics are better...so i went for the flex...and as Gaz says...can't beat it for speed of set-up & takedown...goes in the car easily too

Amazingly enough when i was asking/questioning the difference between a solid tube Dob and a flex Dob, i was told that the flex tube Dobs are heavier then the solid tube Dobs.

I cant see how, but appantly true.

I have a 16" lightbridge and an observing buddy of mine uses the 16" Skywatcher Goto.

Optically there is nothing in it except we both noticed the lightbridge has slightly smaller diffraction spikes than the Skywatcher.

TBH this had made no difference on any objects that we have observed yet.

The real difference is portability.

IMO this is the skywatchers weak point ( in this size ). The 16" Skywatcher is a behemoth. My buddy uses a 3 ton truck with a tail lift and TBH you'd struggle to move it any other way.

My lightbridge I transport easily in a small van.

If a portable 16" is your goal the lightbridge is a far easier scope to live with.

If you are not going this big then ignore.
