9mm Meade Series 5000 Super Plossl

Does anyone have a 9mm Meade Series 5000 Super Plossl? If so, what does it have printed on the inside of the top dust cap? Does it say "P9" or does it actually say "P5.5" instead?

- just curious, that's all...

Hi Jeremy - I have the 9mm and the 5.5mm and I think the caps have probably got mixed up on mine as the two eps are much the same size. Ed

I don't have the 5.5mm, so the cap on the 9mm must be original....

It reads "P5.5" on the inside.

I have both ep`s and it reads P5.5 on the inside of the dust caps, I think this is a factory issue, probably mixed up when originally packaged, or they ran out of caps printed P9, very nice quality lens they all the same

Agreed - I like these eyepieces. I use them in a MAK and they work very well.

Ah HA! - Just as I suspected!

My theory is that "P9" caps don't exist...

Just got a 9 (hard to find now...) - very sharp on-axis, and I'm very pleased with it after testing last night.

The cap on my 9mm also says P5.5. This eyepiece is around 5 years old.

Thanks for that. It's of no consequence I know, but it satisfies my borderline-autistic tendencies to get to the bottom of such anomolies

Great_Bear I read you have just acquired a 9mm, if it is not to forward can I ask if you bought s/h or new,and what you payed ? as these took a big drop in price recently, I may consider parting with mine as I have some new eps being brought over from the States, PM if you wish

Hi - I've just checked mine - two P5.5 caps! I could have sworn I had a P9 cap. Both P5.5 caps fit either the 5.5mm or 9mm eyepiece. The other two, the 14mm and the 26mm, have their own unique caps, neither of which are suitable for the smaller eyepieces.

Sure. The current price new is £49 for the 9, 14, and 5.5mm Meade Series 5000 Plossls. However, almost no-one has them in stock as they are a discontinued item. I found a retailer in the west country who had one in stock and ordered over the phone. None of the main internet retailers had the 9mm.
