Meade LX90 8inch - focussing issues

DRS

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Can anyone give me some advice. I have just taken delivery of a new LX 90 8 inch, but am so far disappointed with the views I have been getting. I have an old Tal 150 pm reflector and put side by side on a clear evening and with the same eyepice (a 32mm and then a 25mm) the view of Jupiter was better in my Tal. The LX just never seems to be quite in focus. Collimation looks OK but am no expert on this part.

Anyone any ideas.

thanks

Welcome to SGL DRS.

You no doubt have a collimation issue with your SCT.

It is very important to have the optics accurately adjusted, otherwise you will be disappointed.

Follow the link to an explanation of How and Why below

You will need Adobe reader to open the .pdf

Hi Rich

Thanks for your response. This is the first SCT I've owned so I dont know how long one should expect for climatisation. My old telescope is a Newtonian reflector so no such issues. However I set up the SCT outside a good 2 hours beore viewing. Should that be enough?

cheers
