Takahashi : absurd prices for spares.

Spares are ridiculous no matter the company, thats why stuff is built so poorly nowadays. Ford tried charging me almost £600 for the back end of a mondeo exhaust (It was the ST so a dual exit), literally just the backbox and tailpipes. I could buy an entire custom stainless system for that! What's wrong with these people? It's almost like they don't want to sell you the spares.

Tell me about it! When the traction control unit on my Astra Sporthatch went (typically just after the warranty ran out). Vauxhall wanted £1246 + fitting + VAT. Despite the fact that it was just the plug-in electronic module I needed and not a whole new traction control/abs pump unit ('we don't do bits guv'). What a rip-off. Needless to say, I shopped around and got a complete exchange unit for £290. Still expensive but not bankrupting.

having taken note of all the above I still like my Tak stuff

I have not had to mess with the mount -it works

I have not had to change my focuser's- they work

what did annoy me as Olly says are the cable prices and the adaptors ,but I know somebody who is very good with a soldering iron and have a lathe now (which will help with the WO as the OTA is too SHORT and I did mean to shout)

"here's a good one. £100 for a tatty counterweight. "

Oh and I've just made myself 2 nice stainless steel counterweights so I might put the old ones on A&B

Astronomical price for a lead.

Thinking back to when the Turbo actuator switch went in my Jag.

Main dealer - "Sorry sir, that needs a replacement unit at £550.00"

Specialist "Sorry Sir, that needs a replacement unit at £450.00"

Found someone who repaired & refurbished the unit - £100.00.

Considering all he did was replace the carbon brushes it was an easy £100 for him, but £350.00+ in my pocket. He did say he wasn't supposed to do them, but he had managed to get a supply of parts from the manufacturer of the units.

After it was fixed, I rang the specialist back and advised them it had been repaired, they still insisted it couldn't be and asked me for the guys number. I told them to google for it.
