P.S.~~~is it true that he quite dislikes being called Sir (as in his knighthood title)?

I believe so - at any rate I didn't hear anyone address him as "Sir Patrick" - it was simply "Patrick". He wouldn't be the first ennobled 'sir' to dislike being called by his title: I knew (more name-dropping here) the late professor Hermann Bondi - he too was a 'Sir' and hated being called that!
