Thanks for the greetings folks.

Incidentally anyone used a programme called "Stellarium" looks like it could come in quite useful though not very portable if tied to a PC ;-)

Hi and welcome to SGL. As said by others Stellarium is very popular; a wonderful piece of free software. I use it to identify what I am seeing in the night sky, to plan observing / imaging sessions (you can go forward and backwards in time) and to computer control my telescope mount. Very useful bit of kit!

Another vote for Stellarium from me... I like that you can input your scope's specification and also the eyepiece you're using and the see on screen exactly what you should see through the scope when you locate the object - great for kids.
