Hi,

Could someone please advise if there is any benefit to be had from flocking the complete OTA as opposed to just the region opposite the focuser on a newt as seems to be the norm?

Thanks

I think this is debatable. the main beneficial areas to flock are behind the focuser as you say, but also equally importantly around (or rather just above) the primary mirror.

personally I have always flocked the whole tube as this removes any doubt, looks neater and I actually believe (but cannot prove it) that flocking the whole tube may

provide a more stable temperature and reduce currents in the tube.

either way, you need to remove all optics before you start.

I recently flocked opposite my focuser, the outside and inside of the focuser tube, the secondary support and blacked the edge of my secondary. I think it made quite an improvement in contrast on fuzzies.

I then flocked the area around the primary that was visible from the focuser but didn't really notice much incremental difference.

It probably depends on how black or baffled your tube is and what additional light is entering the tube and from where
