Celestron 8se

Hi all

Now in possesion of a celestron 8se. All aligned and confirmed.

However when I switch it off and on again later and search for say the moon, the message "no alignment 2 is displayed

Any idea whats happening?

When you say switch it off and back on again, do you realign ?

before you turn it off do you go into the utilities settings and "park scope"

Unfortunately when the power is switched off the alignment is lost and you have to start over again.

No. Do I have to each time i switch on?

I have to go through imputing all the data as in location time and date

Unfortunately, YES

You can get a GPS module that will do it for you, but that's another £100.00 to £150.00 ish.

Ok . So what does "park scope" do?

before u turn it off, if u "park" it it saves the location but it also saves the time and date (of which is was before u turn it off) obv these will be wrong when u turn on but parking it does save the location details for u

as john said the gps module can do all 3 for u with out having to park, but it does cost more money

It could be depending on exactly what model it is etc. but I'd suggest searching SGL as I seem to remember a few threads on the subject.

there are 2 (maybe more) to my knowlage gps modules that celestron made for the "nexstar" controller make sure its the right one im not sure if the skywatcher one works

also it may be worth it but only the inconvience of a few mins of checking your watch for the date or time unless u go to dark sites all over the place (in which the finding the lat n long might be a major inconvience)

How long are you switching off for Jeff - during a session it is customary to leave it on all the time. A 17ah battery should last pretty well most of the night

Cheaper than the Celestron one but still not exactly cheap.

BTW the Skywatcher GPS mouse doesn't work with the SE.

When i set it all up i aligned and everything is ok

I switch it off straight away and then back on .This was to check that the location was saved but it wasnt

Also is there any way of imputing coordinates so i can give my exact location . the nearest city it gives me is about 40 miles away

if you use google maps or google longitude and latitude, you get lots of maps you can zoom into and get exact coordinates of your location

I get my co-ords here - it's for sattelite dishes and you can place the marker right on your doorstep. Unfortunately they have to be entered every time you switch on - but should only need to do it once each session
