I remember reading an Arthur C Clark book a while back, and he reckoned that in a few centuries we might have rings, various nuts and bolts and bits of debris from all the old satellites!

I can just see it, alien stargazer marveling at the sparkly ring system around the Earth, then upgrades his scope & realises it's all rubbish.

Ugh just imagine that thing in the sky all the time. Moonlit nights are bad enough for imaging/viewing the sky, just think how much worse that huge arc through the sky would be!

you can add saturns rings around the earth on universe sandbox to see how it plays out. adding them to the moon is quite something. the earth seems to get bombarded by the debris and makes some interesting patterns.
