  1. HI all well put MO1 out to cool and gave up the pics for tonight has i have not really had a good night with just the scope for ages the darkside keeps pulling me in and is such a pain .so why looking at brocchis cluster which did not fail to get the juices flowing ,after ticking of M71 as well , the old dumbbell neb was on the cards ive not seen it before till tonight after a few scans and pass in it by about five times ,i put the 0lll filter on the 32mm ep and ding ding there she was it looked a bit like a apple core a cartoon one as if some one had eaten the sides of i pushed it to the 17mm + 0lll filter and it looked great thats one to show my friends when they pop round to have a look . lyra was next that little dohnut always grabs me and m56 is a nice glob tried for the veil neb but it just would not be so tonight, had a quick look at m13 m92 they where not so bright tonight ,hercules as lots to look at loads of doubles, with take in the wide field shots over the last couple of weeks well about a month i had forgot about all the things i wanted to tick of my list my meisser list is go in great with about 30 now ticked of ,another look at the dumbbell and i was done i am so glad i brought the 12" reflector every one was telling me not to get "a scope like that" because the size ect but MO1 gives me so much joy ,i feel like a explorer. i no how drake felt now when he was of do in is thing around the world,it humbles me to see these things in the night skies and can not explain in words ,how it makes me feel when i see some thing for the first time i may go on about this but you all no that feeling and it keep me going out every night to see them a very happy pat :)

The Moon hi all i hope to shoot the moon tonight with MO1 (sw12"reflector)the skies look clear here and nothing on the radar map to show rain or cloud till 04:00 so happy days a did mod the toucam to spc900nc spec. then with wccrtl i flashed to raw mode special factory settings ,so no process of the video taken by the toucam the spc880 flashed ect has special factory high color and brightness also a few other settings tweaked so will give them a whirl, also will try the filters out fingers crossed the count down is on **update well got out there in the end took a bit of vid but the wind was beating me in the endthe dob base needs a tighten to loose any way i got the moon and some 5 sec shots of ring neb but a think they will not amount to much the good thing was soon as a was ready to pack up and a saw a brightish star no its never jupiter back already ok it was around 03:30 and the light was breaking but a got some video yeah with planets over the top bright but will stitch it altogether this afternoon but jupiter she was great video of jupiter moon video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUXR1CxFls8

hi jim a was up till 3 this morning and just finished play in about with and the clouds was not that bad here
  15. hi never seen m51 and i have tried like a zillion times
  16. if the clouds do not roll on in tonight i will take some more shots of saturn to see where it is at ,at the minutei was gonna do cygnus but virgo is just as nice and the moons low all this week so we might get a chance have a try your self
  17. hi yes Porrima i just happen to have taken some wide field shots over the top of the house elle just said dad we did that a couple a weeks agao heres the link this might be what you seen ? wide field shots pictures by todd8137 - Photobucket take a look at the link for shots of this
  18. hi all the most common private msg i get on sgl is,"how many seconds should i take ?" well basic wide field shots just on a tripod with no motors, piggy back or just stuck on a camera tripod its easy lets say you have a 28mm lens on the camera and lets say you want to do a basic wide field shot of ursa major. so you shoot for 45secs and stars trail doh! try this, the magic number is 600 :) so i no my camera as a 28mm lense attached but not sure how long to keep the shutter open before trails apear divide 600 by the lense of 28mm 600 divided by 28 = 21.4 seconds so lets round that of to say 21 secs and there you go no i hear you say i can not set to 21 secs most dslrs will shoot at 20 secs so use that always go lower, never higher a was in my local one night and a old drunk bloke told me that a took it with a pinch a salt tried it the next night worked a treat every time we see the old boy in the pub i always buy him a pint so divide 600 with the lens size now if you have say a 70mm lens, 600 divided by 70 = 8.5,you will get a time before trails of 8.5 secs so the bigger the lens the less time to keep the shutter open, the smaller the lens the longer you can keep the shutter open more time cheers pat clear skies always
  19. i no a week ago saturn was in virgo near right next to porima may have spelled that wrong but the clouds are with us so can not see a thing
