I always enjoy listening to these programmes with Jim Al-Khalili. This weeks broadcast was from the RAS in London, with Mike Edmonds from Cardiff University - very entertaining! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001yhzp

What an unexpected treat of an Aurora display tonight! Captured the magenta Aurora glow from the garden with iPhone.

Comet 12P has put on a good show and another Halley-type comet is on its way! 13P Olbers is in Taurus and should be observable in binoculars throughout the summer months - perihelion on 30th June with a magnitude of around 7. It's about 10th mag. now and up by the Pleiades, so reasonably placed in the evening.

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks

Very low down this evening, visible in binoculars as a hazy patch after 9. This shows the comet around 9.20 just above the mountain line between house and tree, with a bright Jupiter. -

Same for me, very poor conditions and haze just showing in 8x42 close to the right of Hamel. Managed a poor shot through trees and amazed to think been watching this comet since Nov. when it was high up in a dark sky! -
I watched Mercury setting this evening, from around 7 til 7.30 - fairly bright naked eye. iPhone image with a bright Jupiter and Mercury just on the skyline beside the trees. Always enjoy a view of the elusive planet.

I had a view of Comet 12P in 8x42s this evening. It's coma is bright, almost stellar like with perhaps a hint of an elongation. Not the best of conditions though, but looking rather good. I also caught a nice pass of the ISS, very bright tonight even through the clouds!

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks

Yes agree, I had a look about 7.30 before it got to low - in 8x42 binoculars it's a bright object. M31 was not far above so it was a good guide scanning between the two. I also took an image of the area with my iPhone, and it shows up well ! -
This might be worth a watch. Live broadcast of the Intuitive Machines 1 landing of Odysseus from 10pm UK. Looking outside at the bright moon seems to give a sense of anticipation for the event - hope all goes well. https://plus.nasa.gov/scheduled-video/intuitive-machines-1-lunar-landing/

Just caught the end of the BBC news, a piece on a very bright meteor spotted in Lincolnshire yesterday In daylight. Hope someone here managed a view - wonder if it made land? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-lincolnshire-68345843

That galaxy 'smudge' image is about the closest depiction I've seen that represents how many DSO and diffuse comets appear visually in my small telescope!

After showers , it's cleared to a lovely night to reveal a splendid crescent moon taken with iPhone 12.

I noticed a sun dog late this afternoon, taken from a window at work. It seemed better to the eye though, nice to see.
